  • I think he’s mostly banking on what comes after Trump assuming our democracy survives. That and if there were Americans on the ground in the country it may be an effective deterrent against Russian aggression just to have American bodies there that could get exploded and bring the USA into a shooting war on Ukraine’s side.

That’s my take on it anyways. Plus it could potentially be beneficial to both countries if the USA were to actually play ball and not be dickheads. Ukraine probably, idk I’m not an economist/read up that much, does not have all the equipment and men and experience to exploit all their mineral wealth. Bringing in American contractors to help isn’t the worst idea, it just needs to be done right for it to make sense.

  • Nothing is bad about that, IF that was what was actually happening. Unfortunately, it very much is not.

I don’t have the time to go on explaining why upping taxes for everyone making under $500k isn’t catering to 99.999% of the population. Or how blowing up USAID and surprise Pikachu facing when farmers can’t sell their crops since they sold a lot to USAID (not to mention all the soft power USAID gets us and how useful it is to so many people here and abroad). Restricting access to news agencies is not “more freedom of speech” but rather suppression of it.

Idk you know there is a bunch more I could say but the reality is not at all what you’re painting with your comments.

  • As an American, I’d be upset if it happened. It’s bonkers to just be like, “oh other sovereign nation NBD you no longer exist,” absolute madness.

Besides we could just (re)negotiate the trade agreements we have in place which apparently are so bad. I wonder who did a bad job with them last time we changed the framework and name of NAFTA … Oh right the Trump admin.

There’s no good reason, in my point of view, we couldn’t have an equivalent to the EU for North and South America - freedom of movement, establishing standards, less friction when it comes to trade - but that would require some true visionaries with a lot of influence and power to work. I doubt it would come to be but I wouldn’t be upset if it happened.

Won’t someone please rid us of the meddling orange man and his sad lonely billionaire buddy.

I don’t think it’s “party pooping” to comment on a post and my opinion on how it is not an ADHD specific trait and humans as a whole do this.

Soooo … You can feel however you want to, I have ADHD myself (diagnosed by a doctor) so I’m not totally talking out of my ass. But it doesn’t mean I’m some sort of expert either.

Given this is a meme community and none of this actually matters, I think we’ll all be ok.

  • Bruh, you ain’t gonna win shit in a fight against dudes using drones and armored vehicles and etc etc. I get the thought though and it isn’t all wrong, violence can be an effective means of changing the political landscape.

Having some common sense gun regulation isn’t a bad thing, and I say that as a person who owns firearms. It shouldn’t be easier to get a tool literally designed for killing than getting a driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle which can be turned into a tool for killing (accidentally or otherwise).

Most guns in school shootings were obtained legally, obviously there’s some problems there especially when we’re the only country on the planet dealing with this.

The state has and maintains a monopoly on legal violence. That’s never changing even if everyone in this country is strapped.

I’m all for responsible gun ownership but there needs to be more laws and regulations around it. School shootings are tragic and avoidable if other countries around the world are anything to go by,

  • I’m educated enough to know you’re either deep in a hole of disinformation / misinformation or on Russia’s side. We learned that appeasement doesn’t work with Nazi Germany and other examples, Russia being the latest.

If you know of the history and issues of Russia and Ukraine then you’d know they’re intrinsically linked to the USA and “Western” interests going pretty far back. Plus lots of trade flows through Ukraine and they export a ton of food - it’s important to lots of innocent people who are also impacted by the war even if it’s not by blood loss. The costs in lives is too high but also the costs in material, in trust, in future cooperation between nations has been eroded by Putin’s actions.

I can believe that because I think Putin doesn’t necessarily want to start WW3. But he has indicated that it wouldn’t have stopped him as well

You can’t have it both ways. It’s either he would or would not have. I think recent history has shown the exact opposite of what you claim Putin indicated. Nobody has invaded a NATO country because it works. That’s why the reaction from Finland and Sweden to this Russian invasion was to join NATO after so many years of not being a part of it even bordering the USSR. They know Putin won’t dare attack a member of that alliance. Clearly neutrality did not work when it came to Ukraine. Nor did appeasement, we’re paying for not being tougher in 2016 but the time between then and 2022 was spent strengthening Ukraine’s military precisely to stop the next occurrence of a Russian attack.

  • I’m not saying I have better insight about that war, but from my understanding, Ukraine shouldn’t join NATO

Well it’s a good thing that from the understanding of the people who make the choices you’re in the wrong.

I think it should be readily obvious why the USA should defend a country against an act of aggression. For one thing, violating international boundaries and seizing land through war ought to be punished. The precedent should be set that doing so brings about international rebuke and strong consequences. For another, the USA made a security guarantee to Ukraine when they gave up their nuclear weapons. We should make good on it.

Ukraine joining NATO would have prevented this war. Russia isn’t going to war with a country in NATO - just look at the Baltic states. They joined NATO to protect against a possible Russian aggression just like what’s happening now in Ukraine. That worked. It would have worked for Ukraine and it’s part of why I believe Putin pulled the trigger on this before Ukraine was in NATO.
