Ahhh I appreciate this explanation, I’ve started learning how docker works from setting up my home lab over the last month, I actually was already using Bazzite on my old “fuck around” laptop lol. Now the dots are connecting.
I’m sure there’s several modules in the Linux kernel that are necessary to function, and you’re also aware that when people broadly refer to Linux, they don’t mean the kernel specifically lol
Linux is not a singular thing, it’s a collection of a lot of things.
I’ll definitely have to start over and try again, I managed to get it partially functional through disrobox (was able to at least launch) but the first page is a framed in chromium browser, which does not function properly through that setup.
I did try both, neither would work 🤷♂️
https://docs.bazzite.gg/Installing_and_Managing_Software/rpm-ostree/
I was attempting to install zulujdk 17 and thinkorswim and can not get it functional, which I’ve done on zorin, Ubuntu, Linux mint, EndevourOS, etc… Just can’t get it functional on Bazzite due to the ostree setup for some reason.
Currently using Bazzite as my main OS on my laptop, and it works pretty good, the ostree setup has prevented me from manually installing several things though :/
Very interesting, thank you!
That does help contextualize my experience a bit, I was very much not expecting a “mode” so I started trying to just type and things were happening lmao. Much appreciated, I might have to give it another try next time, I see there’s a lot of love for the vi family in general, almost cult like ;) but a good sign that it is a really powerful tool once you understand it.
I’m asking now in case it comes up again, I couldn’t make any sense of the documentation for the hotkeys.
I was trying to edit config files, not learn vim at the time, I just needed a text editor so I could save my changes lol
Where would I even type that lol.
I got used to nano already for basic config edit needs over ssh
I still have no understanding of how to do literally anything in vim, I couldn’t even close out lol.
Mmm good stuff, I’ll have to check out tailscale.
I ended up going with a traefik setup, which works well but more options info is always good.
I wish KDE was a little more customizable on that front, I can either have it be left corner for left click, middle bottom for middle click and right bottom for right click, OR click anywhere and it’s a left click and do multi finger pressed for mid/right click.
I just want left and right click, I have a superwide TouchPad on this laptop and the amount of times I close shit (why is middle mouse close for so many things?) is quite irritating.
Haha it did serve me well, after 5 moves the wood(?) finally broke to the point I couldn’t continue using it.
https://community-scripts.github.io/ProxmoxVE/ Check out proxmox, then check out the above scripts and start with the post install script, then something like Ubuntu to get a feel, you can use the other scripts for specific containers
I’m currently playing with setting up a home server on an old PC, using Proxmox as the main OS and using LXC and VMs for the services, not fully set up yet (still working on figuring out reverse proxy to make my services available on the internet)
It’s neat tho, and there’s some helpful scripts for installing various containers and things online.
Oof this got me
I miss my buddy <3
Vice principal got caught with CP and hung himself in jail.
I would be more surprised if 12% of “tech workers” know what Linux is at all.
Fwiw: I work in a call center as basically a more knowledgeable tech for our client facing team to rely on for help and only about 1% of them have any familiarity with Linux in the slightest.
I wonder about the framing of this question, like another comment mentioned, it’s kinda like evolution where MacOS and Linux have a common ancestor, I could see the wording throwing people off.
“Is MacOS based on linux” seems to be the wording used?
I’d bet less would fall for, “Is MacOS a Linux distribution?”
Edit: Ha some people in the comments had similar thoughts, in addition to Linux and Unix being nearly synonymous to all but those who are very into that kind of thing.
Edit again, if anyone else is curious https://youtu.be/jowCUo_UGts
