So the folks getting a lot of the flak today are more likely to be remainers, I wonder how that’s going to pan out in the long run (spoiler, it’ll go as well as Brexit).

The ones cleaning up the mess in the UK are not the ones who voted for it - keep that in mind.

Commuting isn’t cheap - it costs most of us over £100 a week. Offices are rarely, if ever, catered, so be prepared to spend for lunch (or spend your free time prepping lunch,or paying extra for portable food).

Know what no-one factors in, the price of lost sleep for that commute, over the years you’re paying a real premium in medical care as conditions develop.

Bring back genuine office perks (catering, refreshments, a culture of clocking out when done, banning open plan offices, on/near-site child care, flexibility for school runs, near-site medical/dental visits, exercise facilities open before and after hours) and offset the financial stresses by paying a reasonable wage, and you might see folks being less adverse towards RTO.

It’s going to sound really silly but here goes:

1. Ensure their background is the same as it was (seriously, they often use it as an extra way to find things).

2. Where possible, use windows icons for desktop shortcuts and mask link names to match vocab they’re familiar with.

3. Have rustdesk set up with a link saying “Let <your name> help me”.

4. Make sure they have their password written down somewhere.

7. Add desktop links for things like downloads, documents and pictures.

These are tips for any distro when moving less tech savvy relatives over. For those that like to game, ensure your fs on their gaming drive is a Linux one as it stops weird behaviour. Also, you know, install the games for them!

Most of the time it’s realising the difference between local and cloud storage. A lot of students get confused when trying to upload their first coursework - usually it’s solved by just showing them the difference between local files (this is stored in a permanent local place) and cloud storage (this is stored permanently somewhere else).

Mac users really struggle to understand the concept of local files without being shown. Pretty much - most of us (scholars being a synonym for academics, a set I do belong to [lectureship in mathematics and statistics]) agree that bombing the homes of people into rubble and striking the camps they flee to is an intentional attempt to erase a cultural group.
