Our girl has favorite spots in the house too. She tends to favor one spot for a little while, so she’ll spend almost all her time hanging out there but then get bored and switch to a new spot. I recently named this phenomenon “Spot of the Week” lol

Re: getting her to eat

Our 12-year-old kitty was recently diagnosed with kidney disease, and on top of that she had a kidney infection. After several weeks of antibiotics the kidney infection has cleared up, but we’ve been struggling with getting her to eat enough, especially while she was really sick.

Finding the right wet food has really helped. She can only eat kidney-approved foods right now so our options are more limited. Turns out she does not care for the paté style wet foods but she LOVES the Royal Canin options with “little slivers.” I think she prefers that she can pick up the bits in her mouth rather than licking a clump of meat lol. The Royal Canin kidney diet options are specifically designed to be appealing to cats who might have a limited appetite, and I can definitely vouch for its effectiveness with our girl.

I know you’re not needing kidney-friendly foods for your girl, but my point is, if she doesn’t like the first wet food you try, they have different options and maybe she’ll prefer another type. So experimenting might help.

At one point we needed an appetite stimulant for our girl, so that’s an option too. The vet gave us a transdermal medication that you rub on your cat’s ear (so they can’t lick or rub it off before it gets absorbed.) That might be an option for you, although probably just in the good ear right now 🙂 The appetite stimulant REALLY helped us when our girl was in the midst of her infection. She went from basically not eating anything to being so hungry that she was purring while eating her food cause she was so happy 🥹

Originally we used the appetite stimulant every day, but it’s not necessarily good for long-term use in cats with kidney disease, so we’re trying to figure out the minimum dose to keep her eating. She got a half dose about four days ago, which kicked up her appetite. And I think getting used to eating more food again is relatively self-sustaining for her, because she’s still eating more all these days later. So yeah, I can also vouch for the effectiveness of the appetite stimulant.

I tried to find the video again but I couldn’t. But I recently saw an Instagram video of someone asking a vet what they recommended as a safe method of transporting a pet on a bike. If I remember correctly - which I might not - the vet was strongly against something on the handlebars that the pet could be flung out of in a crash. I think they suggested a pet-carrier backpack style method instead.

There are already some super valuable comments on here, and I’m half commenting as a way to save this thread for myself for later.

I wanted to say that for adopting a kitten, the current recommendation is to adopt two kittens to avoid “single kitten syndrome” (aka an unruly/loud/needy cat.)

Which was not something I knew of ~12 years ago when I got my single cat as a kitten. And she is very needy and very loud (less annoying in older age but still.)

However, I haven’t adopted a second cat to be her friend because we also now have a high energy dog and another new animal would just be too much for us.

When it’s time for our next cat, my plan is to go to the shelter and sit down in the cat room and take home whoever curls up in my lap first (current kitty prefers “proximity snuggles” to true snuggling.) So probably adopting an older cat rather than a kitten. And probably also sticking with just one unless the shelter says the kitty has bonded with a friend (and adopting a bonded pair would be amazing.)

But if we ever get kittens again, I’ll definitely get two. Better off letting them terrorize each other in the middle of the night rather than me 😁

So I’m a woman who loves shopping. But I’m a very short woman and I prefer to shop from the petite section - for most stores, petites are only offered online, if they’re offered at all

So I do a LOT of online shopping and returning. I would also prefer to be able to try things on in stores before purchasing, but a lot of times I literally don’t have that option. So essentially I try stuff in the privacy of my own home. I prefer to shop online from stores in my area and then return in-person, but a lot of places offer free mail returns too.

Point is, if you’re returning women’s clothes to a store, no one needs to know they were ordered for you. Maybe you’re shopping for your wife, maybe she’s disabled so she can’t get out and shop for herself, or maybe you just love buying her presents. Nothing is stopping you from lying to cashiers if they asked - but usually it’s just “was anything wrong with the item” and you just say “no it just didn’t work out/didn’t fit her/I ordered two sizes and she’s keeping the one that fits.”

The best stores will list either garment measurements or suggested physical measurements for the sizes they offer. If you know your own measurements, this should help you make informed decisions until you get to know your sizes at various brands (…and even then, it will still vary widely! 😏)

Looking at women’s plus size options may show you options that are more accommodating of broader shoulders, etc.

However, they did not steal the money you paid them. It has been 1,279 days since April 11th 2021. You paid $2.15 total for the app, per your screenshot. Assuming you used the game every day, let’s break down that cost to cents per day. It works out to 0.168ths of a cent per day for ownership during this time. For a game you clearly enjoyed playing, you paid about a cent per week, which was used to pay the employees who were supporting the maintenance and possibly further development of the app. that money wasn’t stolen, it was used to support the thing that you enjoyed.

Does it suck that you can’t use it anymore? Absolutely!

Should you be able to own your purchases forever? Yes!

Is the system fucked? You better believe it!

Did they steal $2.15 from you? … no.

Fixed cats live longer. Spaying decreases the likelihood of cats developing certain types of cancers.

Friends of mine literally last week had to put their cat down because she developed breast cancer and rapidly deteriorated (we’re talking painful skin ulcers here.) If the cat had been spayed at a young age, she would likely still be here.

And as others have said, spaying is the wise choice in case she were ever to accidentally get outside.

If you see a stray with an eartip (the top point removed from one ear) this is a sign of a Trap-Neuter-Return cat. It’s the sign that an outdoor kitty has been caught, fixed, and then returned to their outdoor home. It means some humans care about this cat and their colony 🙂
