That 1% number is a bit misleading. Federal funding isn’t paid to NPR directly and instead goes to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The CPB gives money to non-profit radio/tv stations and those stations pay NPR, PRI, APM, etc for content. Without the CPB, tons of radio stations, mostly rural, couldn’t afford to exist and wouldn’t be paying NPR anything.

I actually think this is Zelensky manipulating Trump. From Ukraine’s point of view, this is win-win. They get continued military support on terms that Trump is likely to champion (“$15T in rare earth metals! Take that Jina!”). The rare earth deposits are mostly in Donetsk and Luhansk, so Trump has an incentive to support taking back that territory from Russia. And finally, this will mean post-war investment into rebuilding the bombed out industries in the East.

The Holodomor happened years after Russia achieved their so-called “peace”. The suffering and death in Ukraine will only increase under Russian subjugation. The only way to put an end to it is for Russia to lose and preferably Putin be brought in front of the Hague and publicly hanged for his crimes against humanity.

What they’re defending against is being raped, murdered, starved and having their children stolen by Russia. All you Tankies always try to distract from and ignore the suffering and mountain of corpses left in Russia’s wake. You don’t get to ignore the 300 thousand children stolen by Russia or the 5 million killed in the Holodomor.

Ukraine desperately wants those bombs. They remember what it was like living under Russian imperialist rule. They remember that Russia genocided 10% of their population the last time they were conquered.

According to Putin, it’s not a national emergency or war. It’s a “special military operation”, which is why the conscripts haven’t been deployed and are still sitting on Russian soil.

All of the Russians in Ukraine are volunteers. They signed up for this and deserve to die horrible deaths. Putin has specifically limited conscript deployments to Russia proper to avoid public blowback, so the only time they saw any fighting was during the early days of the Kursk offensive.
