Even for Windows, as shit as it is, this seems hard to believe.
Canada buys old shit and then gets it fixed up by our oligarchs. Our procurement system is just a bunch of make-rich projects.
Those plates don’t stop rifle rounds. The school shootings we hear about (actual mass shootings) nearly always involve a rifle. Given that fact, those plates are just useless weights.
No sadly, in Canada actually. You really wouldn’t like how low IT pay is here.
It took me 3 years and over 700 applications to get two interviews and one underpaid job, which I took because it beat working for minimum wage and getting no experience. I worked that for 3 years and then they ran out of work for me. I was not able to leverage that experience into a new programming job despite my efforts and have since moved onto administration.
Yeah now I understand why so many admins hate “developers”: they’re actually real fucking ignorant about so many things, especially licensing. I’ve had to do battle with Oracle twice because our people don’t understand the difference between personal use and commercial use.
Google searches have become increasingly worthless over time. I find it depressingly difficult to find things now.
Considering grabbing a sub on one of the paid search engines like Kagi: the search actually works.
100% this would be my reasoning. I love Python for prototyping and personal stuff, but on an enterprise team? There is a reason Java has survived this long.
I really don’t get the use of AI to replace creative roles. At worst I’ve used it as a sort of “lorem ipsum” generator but for various placeholders. I think AI’s true value is in understanding the sometimes overwhelming amount of documents, records, datasets and databases that organizations can amass. Being able to have an AI help sift through the garbage is real helpful actually.
I’ve seen governments using it to do things like handle access-to-information type requests or help patent examiners find relevant patents: those uses make a lot of sense.
lol your admin is a dumbass I wager
Fuck no. A beginner learning base concepts like arrays, conditionals, loops, variables, functions, etc. should use something much less punishing like Python. It’s much easier to iterate, to understand your mistakes, and to learn from others when you use a simpler language.
When you’re ready to learn about pointers, memory management, etc. then you can take on Rust.
I hate so much that this is true. How did we manage to go so far backwards despite an army of UX designers? Oh wait…
But seriously it’s all this bullshit driven by engagement and weird metrics no one likes. For some reason even our ticketing system at work is built like it’s supposed to hold my attention rather than be a purpose-built tool for making my job easier.
Please also include all the bullshit random toys, card games, loot boxes, and other garbage people like to pretend are not gambling.
Seems like I won’t get Steam Deck anytime soon
You can save a lot by buying a lower model and swapping the SSD later; it will end up cheaper in total as well as immediately, which makes it almost a no-brainer. It’s not as simple as a PC but it’s still easy enough that if you’ve ever done it for a PC you will likely manage it. If you happen to live around the Ottawa/Gatineau area in Canada, I’ll do the swap for you if you’re not comfortable with it, you just need to supply the SSD (and I can give suggestions on that).
I don’t know if any of that helps you at all but this is a realm I know well and I try to help where I can.
You don’t tell the fucking UN to evacuate because you want to attack someone.
I repair computers on the side and this exact issue happens so frequently I know some of the error codes that I dont bother trying to fix now. The sheer amount of Windows reinstalls I have to do… honestly its often faster than trying to fix the problem.
Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for correctly using the term and calling out the degenerates who self-insert as little girls everywhere.
The real path forward to fixing voting in the US is going to be a long one. People need to find or form grassroots organizations to replace as many local and state positions as possible with actual candidates. Essentially a takeover of the Democrats starting at the lowest levels and moving up from there.
Some might be demoralized by how long this will take. Others realize that this actually isn’t that hard with teams of motivated people.
On the Republican side: look at Brandon Herrera and his battle with Tony Gonzales. A youtuber nearly beat the incumbent (lost by 407 votes). The man tapped into people’s anger and very nearly got it.
Where are lefties on this? Nothing out of the unions? People want change, help them get it.
Ah yes like the Boeing employees who shot themselves in the head twice.
I didn’t understand for so long how people could just sit down and do shit, while I hated doing things like dishes so much it made me irrationally angry.
Just knowing I have a problem helped. With some consideration and research I got ideas on how to deal with some of my problems. Example: hate washing dishes? Reduce the number of dishes you have at home and replace as many as possible with dishwasher-safe alternatives (assuming you have a dishwasher). Then they can’t pile up so bad and it becomes less intimidating to take on.
What didn’t help: suggestions from people without ADHD. “Just do it”, “schedule it”, “task tracker”, etc… yeah fuck that.
