  • You already took the first, most important step. Now you just continue from here.

Feel yourself in the moment. Decide to do anything you want and go do it, even if it is stuff “from past you”. Then make a conscious effort to record/remember the way you feel while doing it.

Do you get the urge to continue doing it? To stop it? Do you like/dislike it? Use those feelings to guide your next decision, and then just repeat.

There is nothing bad about what your past wanted either. If you still want to go for those dreams, you certainly can. Those things may still be what your “current you” wants, even if it is influenced by your past.

Your “current you” consists of the past. Your “current you” is not separate from your past, your “current you” is only what it is now because of your past. With a different past you would have a different “current you”. Because of that, don’t see your past as something that doesn’t/shouldn’t exist, of course, in an optimal world, you wouldn’t have experienced those things, but you did experience them, and they will influence you in some way. The past influencing our present is just how humans work, if you had a nice childhood/whatever, you would also be influenced by those nice memories.

So deliberately trying to not do the things your past wanted doesn’t really make sense. But it also means that you don’t need to go for those past things either, which you’ve just figured out.

There is really no real reason to overcomplicate this. Just think about things you want to do right now, see how they feel right now, and then adjust your behavior accordingly.

  • “You” are not which hobbies you have or the topics you’re interested in. The fact that I can even form this sentence and it’s not nonsensical should already prove that. I feel like it is self-evident.

You exist, and you go through multiple interests. That means there must be some “you” that is not connected to these interests.

So, why do you define yourself by your interests? Because in our society, specialization is disproportionately rewarded, while a multi-spectrum approach (forgot the word, generalism?) is not. Everyone wants to feel useful in society and we’re made to not feel that. But it’s not that having ADHD makes us useless, it’s just that almost no one bothers to invest in/use our strengths.

So, no, this is neither an attack, nor can you not have a sense of identity. Multiple changing interests are not bad. Not being specialized in one thing is not bad. I’m proud of knowing a lot about a lot of different things. I like who I am, with ADHD, and you should, too.

  • Obviously people like sex and want things sexualized, otherwise it wouldn’t be created. I like sexualized comics. If you don’t like it, then no one forces you to select to read/watch the comics that are sexualized. Obviously, since many people like sexualized stuff, you will have to deal with the (probably smaller) selection of comics that don’t do it, of which I’m sure they exist.

I just don’t understand the need to hate things like this. I don’t hate it if a comic isn’t sexualized, even though that’s not what I prefer.

I still don’t really understand this sentiment. Could you please explain why this is the case for you? I really mean this as curiosity.

I can certainly understand current things, like if there is a book author right now that is a piece of shit and they try to sell a new book, of course I won’t buy it. Also not support their old stuff. But why exactly is their effect in the past tainted by this? LotR is still an amazing book, talking about lots of good things like friendship, loyalty, self-sacrifice etc, creating a beautifully interesting fantasy world. Why is this ruined, why can you not appreciate this now that you know the author is a piece of shit?
