It would be good to get rid of fucking Modi and his den of jackals.
CJP leaders say Modi’s government is creating ‘atmosphere of fear’ after they were among thousands detained on Saturday
The leaders of India’s Cockroach movement accused the Narendra Modi government of declaring “war with its own citizens” and vowed to continue with their protest after being released from police detention, as anti-government unrest rocked Delhi for a second day.
The three leaders of the youth-led Cockroach Janta party (CJP) were taken into custody on Saturday when thousands were detained by police as authorities went to extreme lengths to prevent young people taking to the streets to protest.
By Sunday morning, a magistrate had ordered that the three CJP leaders, Abhijit Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, be released on the condition that they would not “breach peace” for a year.
[…]
Saturday’s protest was called by the CJP alongside student groups and civil society leaders to demand the resignation of India’s election commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar, who is accused of an “assault on democracy” by overseeing an exercise that has deleted 130 million names from India’s electoral roll.
Kumar is accused of implementing the voter roll revision to help Modi’s ruling Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) entrench its power and to disenfranchise minority groups such as Muslims who are not traditionally part of the BJP’s voter base.
Is the party growing ?
Well, this starts a timer. This path typically ends in some form of civil war, revolution, or backwards repressive dictatorship. Given the huge indian diaspora it’s going to involve a lot of nations even as a domestic issue.
i have to wonder though, the Turkish diaspora for example, leave their country (and it’s no small thing to uproot from family and friends) because they find it a bit of a “shit hole” and better opportunities abroad, defend Erdogan to the death, as the man the country needs, no matter an earthquake shattering all those poorly built buildings from endless corruption.
The diaspora often seems part of the problem, I suspect similarly with Modi, they’ll broadly support him.
They do. The Indian diaspora (especially the boomers and older millennials) are shockingly rabid in their support for Modi and Hindutva nationalism
The Indian diaspora will probably be similar, Modi seems to get a rockstar welcome wherever he goes. It’ll be interesting to see what views surface as this continues.
Meanwhile in the US people are literally doing nothing as federal agents shoot unarmed civilians in the head. And yet Im repeatedly told I dont understand because Americans are just trying to survive day to day.
If people in India are willing to risk arrest what is your excuse?
Ikr, they’re comparing these protests to their “No Kings” protest which happens bi yearly on Sundays. I’ve lived in India for a few years and have friends there. This protest is massive, elderly politicians from almost all states are there protesting. To the Amerikkkans, please don’t compare your incompetent protests to this. Fucking amerikkkan right wings are funding the RSS in India.
I thought Lemmy would be different, it’s just fucking Reddit now or any other fucking American socials. How confident they feel commenting about stuff they are not knowledgeable in, is beyond me. But do keep making bumper stickers or tweets
There have been massive protests in the US. There have been arrests of protesters in the US, many of whom were not released on the next day. And as you point out in your comment, they’ve been risking getting shot in the head while doing it.
This protest is entering its second day. Maybe slow your roll a little in the comparison.
This protest is entering its second day.
These protests have been going on for months in one form or another, actually. The regime is getting increasingly heavy-handed in how they deal with opposition in an attempt to convince the world that everything is fine.
To be fair this is the second iteration of these protests so it has been more than two days overall. The first iteration led to the government accepting the protestors demands and the resignation of the key education minister that was held in contempt.
On one hand I would say India has a rich tradition of protest and the people naturally have an inclination to slap back at authoritarianism. British foreign occupation and Indira Gandhi declaring emergency in the post independence period come to mind. On the other, America has a similarly rich tradition of standing against tyranny albeit shorter, more violent and cushioned by relative prosperity. The No Kings protests were of a smaller scale and arguably less effectual but the spirit of standing against authoritarianism is absolutely present in both nations.
Protests are not enough. You know it. I know it. Everyone knows it. Just not everyone is ready to admit it yet.
What are you doing to help?
Im not American. Its not my job to unfuck your country.
Do you do anything useful in your country then?
I mean, if your country is working like a functioning democracy run by responsible adults, you might not need to do anything about that except be reasonably productive and pay your taxes.
I’m sorry. This isn’t directed at you.
“if your country is working like a functioning democracy run by responsible adults”
This is a common trope, even over twenty years ago in grade school the notion was that we have an oligarchy or worse. American Democracy was effective propaganda.
About what?
Ok, but nothing more is (currently) happening in India.
Source?
Like, I know that the US media will not cover that. But what about other non-US media outlets? Or, how do you know there are massive protests, including unlawful arrests?
I am genuinely curious. I’m a Eurofag and want to know what’s happening behind the curtain.
Edit because of massive disinformation campaign by Russian propaganda: Since no one was able to give me sources, I checked Wikipedia. Wanna know how many protests with more than 5000 people attending happened in 2025 and 2026 across the whole US?

Do you know how long the longest protest was?
1 day.
You are all pathetic and hypocrites.
Go back to 4chan, dipshit.
Funny how now one is able to provide any sources. I wonder why this might be the case.
Because no one wants to put up with your bullshit. Go away.
My bullshit? Sure. I did the work for you. Wanna know how many protests with more than 5000 people attending happened in 2025 and 2026 across the whole US?

Do you know how long the longest protest was?

You all are so far off reality, no one can help you anymore. And there is also a very good reason no one is giving me any good sources, because there are basically no serious protests happening.
You. Are. Pathetic.
I’m not reading this. Leave.
US media has been covering these. It’s not a secret and if you haven’t heard of them I really don’t feel inclined to do the most basic searches to satisfy your curiosity. No Kings was massive and country wide, Minneapolis was under siege for a month, congressional candidates were arrested in Chicago, some guy got accused of terrorism for throwing a sandwich, two protesters have been murdered, and people demonstrating with fireworks were convicted on 50 year sentences.
No sources - classic. The bit of holding up a few signs is not what I would call a protest. I was hoping you were actually knowing what you were talking about when berating other countries on how to protest. You tell others to keep on protesting for longer, while you mention No Kings, an event of a couple of hours walking through the streets together on a weekend.
How naive of me of actually expecting you to provide proper sources.
To help narrow down your search, I believe they’re referring to the ICE protests.
Here’s a Wikipedia page of one of the murdered protesters. You can probably find more in the links throughout this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Renée_Good
Thank you, very much appreciated.
Yup, I thought I smelled a sea lion.
Hyper individualism plus isolation equals no solidarity. Revolution requires solidarity.
