The US has been ratfucking foreign elections, especially in South America, since before Russia was a country.

It’s long been the case, if only because Social Media is almost all controlled by US companies (with the notable exception of TikTok, and notice how hard the current US administration is trying to control it) and it has a lot more money than anybody else to do such things with.

I mean, Steven Bannon came to Europe some years ago with millions of dollars from the Koch Brothers very openly to “create Far-Right parties” (and “by an amazing coincidence” the Far-Right which was until then only successful in a few countries, really took of in pretty much all of Europe after than) and Cambridge Analitica was paid with American money to via Facebook manipulate British public opinion in favor of Brexit at a time when many American politicias were very openly calling the EU an “adversary”.

And don’t get me started on even older US Government interference in various European countries before the time of the EU, especially the smaller ones.

Whilst it seems logical that Russia is trying to shape politics in other countries in a way that favors its interests, since they have nowhere the same amount of money and own none of the media (not just the social kind, but also things like News Agencies) shaping public opinion in those countries, they’re not in fact in a position to have anywhere the impact that America can have in the politics of at least most of the West.

Of course, in South America which gets treated as “America’s backyard” it’s even worse and has been so for far longer.

They stole elections in Chile, Columbia, and El Salvador, just for starters.

But there was a huge uproar over Nicaragua cancelling elections when faced with alleged systemic manipulation and fraud. It’s just easier to believe a Leftist Government Hates Democracy than to acknowledge that the bourgeois in these states are stacking the decks.

Uhm… I don’t know the details of the other countries but Nicaragua is a de facto dictatorship. Elections haven’t been fair and free for many years now.

Any systemic manipulation and fraud there is done by Ortega and the FSLN, they control everything. I remember the transition very well because I lived there and saw with my own eyes how Ortega consolidated power and eliminated political enemies, independent journalism, and civil society.

I happen to know quite a lot about this and I really don’t understand what point you’re trying to make. I’m sure the US is trying to meddle in Brazilian elections but that has nothing to do with the dictatorship in Nicaragua.

That is one of the many internationally illegal things Trump has done. When he is done with his term, you could probably fill a two story museum with all of it.

Nothing’s going to change unless Americans start changing their lifestyles and start living more respectfully with less of the priveliges that allow them to live within constant escapism.

The “freedom” America offers is not the freedom that makes humanity prosper as an organism. The freedom America offers is the ability to live outside of universal reality and escape from universal truth.

Generally the same goes for all modern 1st world nations…

I have a more achievable idea. How about we directly address our fascism by deleting our fascists?

We are infested with over 100 million conservatives. If we finish Sherman’s work, the fascism will stop cold because there will be no more fascists among us. Our civil war was not finished properly. Showing mercy and allowing pure evil to continue living here was a deadly mistake.

Nothing can change until we eradicate the evil that cause our fascism. Conservatives are cancer and must be dealt with as such.

100% agree. People are too docile. This doesn’t end until those that perpetuate it fear for their lives.

It sucks you’re being down voted, because it truly is the only solution. Tolerance of intolerance fixes nothing.

And for rising developing countries, who just want a taste of what the West has had for a while. Can’t blame them, but you’re right, none of this is sustainable, we just haven’t seen the long term results yet so think it’s fine.

If you are me why don’t you take my own advice and stop posting online?

Posting online is one of those privileges you… I mean I were talking about right? Let’s do less of that :)
