In the USA, but this is actually mostly state by state, if one’s license says they must wear glasses, then they must do so, or risk penalties of some sort. (It mostly doesn’t come up in the media.) If the license doesn’t say anything, then anything goes. Some borderline glasses wearers take the vision test, which is a super simplified test (If one cannot pass the driving vision test then the test taker has horrible vision.), without glasses just to not have to delay driving due to misplaced glasses.
To go further, in the USA, the Drivers License tests establish a very low floor. Obtaining it does not mean one is good at driving, but NOT obtaining it within 3 tries means that person SHOULD NOT be driving. They are a danger to all.
