A damning report from the European Court of Auditors identifies insufficient grid infrastructure and interconnectors across EU countries as major barriers to unlocking a fully integrated energy market.
It’s great with this report showing we can and should do more, and IDK about other countries, but here (Denmark) we have done a lot to curb gas consumption.
Gas was a popular source for heating houses. And there have been subsidies to replace gas with heat pumps.
It’s funny that even if the electricity for the heat pump comes from gas powered electricity, you still save more than ½ the gas.
But we have about 80% electricity from renewable, so transitioning to electricity is a HUGE bonus.
We also buy 90% BEV cars now, so the old ICE cars are on their way out. The rest of EU is a bit behind, but sales of BEV cars are increasing across Europe.It’s a great strength of EU now that we have so much renewable energy. It has prevented the Iran war with increased oil prices from having a cascading inflationary effect, and actually made European industries more competitive!
So although we can do better, it’s not all bad. 😀
