My cat also ate too much grass and throws up. I used to have this “cat grass” patch growing in the windowsill for him to graze on. But he ate it so fast that it didn’t have time to regrow, and it got “redistributed” around the house. Silly creature. We don’t have cat grass anymore.
They eat grass in order to throw up. It is their method of getting rid of hairballs. For longhaired cats like OPs eating grass is a good thing, although regular grooming of the cat is even better.
We used to shave him (not too short) because he enjoyed it. I think my cat specifically was just a goober. He would eat any houseplant within reach; or at least maul them. Used to find pieces of succulent clinging to life under the refrigerator and other odd places
