why does stuff always have to be big and centralized
Because your country (assuming you live in the United States of America):
a) Cracks down on torrent users too often for them to risk not using a VPN, which means no torrents from US IPs.
b) Has very expensive hosting prices (hosting a site is more expensive in the US than in other country), making hosting small sites not worth it
