Let’s not pretend the Castros aren’t a dynasty and still control most of the islands resources. Hardly a “Workers paradise” with them running largely on the same patronage system that embrittled and collapsed the Soviets.
The Castros aren’t in charge of government any more. Most of the major figures are dead.
It’s no worker’s utopia, sure, but it’s no hellscape either. They certainly seem to have outlasted the Soviet Union and are doing relatively well, given the circumstances.
