Alberta has basically zero legitimacy to leave Canada, for the simple reason that it never joined Canada in the first place.

Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and PEI were the original provinces to form the Canadian confederation. Together, they acquired the Northwest Territories from the British and then began organizing it into new provinces. Alberta was literally carved out of Canadian territory, for administrative purposes.
