Summary
China’s defence ministry warned Taiwan, “We will come and get you, sooner or later,” after Taipei announced expanded military drills.
The remark, made by spokesperson Wu Qian, gained attention for resembling a line from the hit Chinese film Ne Zha 2, which has fueled nationalist sentiment.
Taiwan’s defense ministry condemned China’s actions, calling it the “biggest troublemaker.”
Meanwhile, Beijing’s rhetoric on Taiwan is intensifying, and Trump’s reluctance to commit to Taiwan’s defense has raised concerns about U.S. support amid China’s growing military modernization efforts.
I’m assuming this is going to happen at the current rate of Trump pulling back from the U.S’s previous position in the world. China is on pace to claim that position, and then they get to set the terms, same as the U.S has done previously.
A sad state of affairs, to be sure.
