I was raised in an abusive home, and Star Trek TNG was one of my few escapes. I remember wanting to be like Captain Picard when I grew up. Confident, kind, direct, capable, and loving.

As to your question: a lot…the character(s), not the person behind it (I didn’t knew him personally). Like all characters in all trek. I’m a an evil capitalist hellhole-world, this stupid silly utopia where people exist to better themselves is still a refreshing and creative take. A dream how humanity COULD be but never won’t be.
