• We did the week of twice daily antibiotics and the urinary test to “confirm infection”

  • BoziePro is unscented

  • Litterbox Is LitterRobot 4, recent upgrade. Much better for her asthma, she was fine with the previous generation for years prior but I wanted to get the Shield to prevent the spread of dust and irritants that Im certain were hurting both of us

  1. I turned it off and I’ll try just running it twice daily
  2. I swt up a seperate litter box for her in the hallway. I think I might have to put it inthe bedroom but for now its in the hallway by the door cuz I just canthave her pissing the bed again.

The Feliway should be here today so hopefully that helps relax her a and the other cat thats a bit of a guard hound and disturbingly aggressive to her.

There so many factors here and I’m just burnt out on all this.

-They’re (feliway and hills “prescription” multistress urinary care food) in the mail and coming but in the meantime i closed the bedroom door, trying to keep her cordoned on a corner of the couch where i can watch her

Is this ever gonna end?

  • Can the enzymatic cleaner I used require to wash it too every time she pisses?

Im honestly at my breaking point here. I cant fucking handle an enemy within destroying my furniture and i just plopped my ass down unknowingly in to a fresh puddle of piss!

Halp!

if the cat associated the litter box with pain from urination, they will avoid it.

    New box, new location.

I truly second this. Cats don’t understand their body is causing the problem, so they avoid the environment where the pain occurs. If they keep going for soft surfaces, get a new box and put a sacrificial towel in it with litter underneath in a different location than the old one. You can slowly pull back the towel when they are being treated for the problem, and then make slow adjustments to put the box back in the old location.

My cat did the same thing, and I was losing my mind before I realized it was an infection and she was peeing blood. Afterward treatment, I bought a cranberry supplement for cats, urinary food (doesn’t have to be the super expensive vet stuff, retail is also fine), and added wet food to her evening meals. She hasn’t had an issue since (8+ years).

I did the same with a pack of the super absorbent and soft towels. It took about 5 months to get back to using the litter box in the old place. The last month I used a rubbermaid container lid in front of the box with the toweling laid on it. Sometimes he would use both, the toweling to pee and the box to poop. I was lucky, I could just pop the towels into my washing machine each day. If I didn’t have that I would have probably bought the super cheap package of a few hundred and tossed em. Plus side, litter costs went way down. Vinegar to add to each load wasn’t to expensive once I found the huge bottles of cleaning vinegar in the cleaning isle. I did my absolute best to control my disgust and praised him every time he peed where I preferred and totes ignored when he didn’t. It wasn’t his fault and it was hard on us both. But he lived after surgery to correct his scarred urethra for another 12 years. After recovery he never peed on my stuff again. In the recovery phase I bought waterproof mattress, couch, and cushion covers. I’m sorry you had to go through this too.

What is the state of their litter box? What type of litter is it? where is it located? is it covered? do you have other cats? what type of food are you giving them? What is the salt content? Is there water nearby? Is it fresh?

Cats peeing in places like that can be any number of reasons INCLUDING urinary infections, but it could have been triggered by some of the other things i asked. How long ago was the treatment? How long of a treatment was it?

If the smell of the air freshening scent is powerful for you, it’s even more so for them. If it’s unscented, it should be fine. Regular clay is good. Small amount in the bin. Do not cover it. Scoop out at least once a day, and make sure it’s not beside their food or water.

Also, are you using an automatic litter cleaning box? Some cats are afraid of them.

Are you sure that the original infection was really cleared up? Could she have a new infection? Can she be contained to a crate or a pen or maybe the bathroom for a while so you get a break from the destruction?

My dog had a UTI, took a course of antibiotics and got tested again, came up clean. She had high protien levels in that 2nd urine test so we had to get another test 2 weeks later to check for possible kidney issues. Just heard back from the vet and my dog has another UTI. Is it the original infection that somehow barely survived the antibiotics and evaded detection? Is it a totally new infection? Who knows? Dogs aren’t cats (and thankfully, Molly isn’t peeing on the furniture) but all that to say: it can take a few tries to clear an infection and/or root cause an issue.

A few helpful details are missing but make sure the cat has a clean litter box in a very accessible location. Clean meaning you clean it after every piss (for a while). You want to make it just as easy and enjoyable to piss in the litter box than anywhere else. If the cat is an outdoor pisser, put a litter box anyway, in case there are some territorial disputes going on outside that are making her hesitant to go out (or making the problem worse)

Cats are creatures of habit, and are drawn to piss where they smell piss. But they don’t piss where they eat. So move the food and water to the spot up against the couch exactly over the spot where she pisses. Put the bowls on a large plastic tray to make it easy to move, prevent spills, and cover the old piss. If she climbs onto the couch to piss, put it on thr couch.

Next, to fully break the cycle, you have to eliminate the piss smell. You might think it’s gone because you smell nothing more than enzyme cleaner fragrance. But her nose still smells it. If you’re just spraying the cleaner onto the rug or sofa and massaging it, then it’s not soaking down into the under rug or cushion foam. You’re getting only the tip of the iceberg. You have to take the cap off the bottle , pour and and flood the spot on the rug or couch so that the cleaner envelops and soaks everywhere the piss seeped to. Then cover the spot with the food tray or plastic wrap to keep the enzyme cleaner from drying out for a few days. It needs that time to work , especially if it’s cooler climate. You may need to do two or three cycles of this cleaning. Unzip the sofa’s pillow cushions, remove the foam squabs, and wash the covers (air dry)

This should set you and kitty on the right track, assuming the infection/bladder issue is solved.

Note that the uric acid in cat piss (the stinky component) has a half life of 6 years. Dont spare the enzyme cleaner. Pour it liberally. Plan to consume 2 or 3 bottles per piss event.
