People really afraid of Rust out here.
I know it’s dumb to feel sad about computers and software getting shutdown, but it feels sucky to see all my hours of hard work getting trashed without a second thought.
Sadly, something we all have to get used to. Everything we do is ephemeral and the next guy will likely have better/different ideas on how to do things.
Basically everything I’ve ever built has been torn down or somehow bastardized eventually.
Some of us subscribe to some of them, sometimes they’re gift links, other times we can use archive.is or the Wayback machine to get access. Bonus points when these mirror links are in the post body.
It’s important to link the canonical source though.
I don’t think you need to be dysphoric to want to be forgotten. I don’t think it’s any less reasonable than wanting to have a legacy.
The real question is, what does the “right to be forgotten” even mean? You can’t have a right that involved other peoples’ thoughts. In most cases I think it’s the right to be able to own and remove records you created on third party systems.
The right to be forgotten, as I usually read it, is the right to have Google or Meta or whatever to remove your account and everything associated with it. I wish that were law.
Start from the install guide on the wiki. It’ll branch out fast and just follow all the links and read. If something goes wrong, check if you missed something on the wiki. It’s an amazing resource.
Also, look up your hardware on the wiki before you start.
And pay with what? Would the dollar still even exist?
This is from that home-built laptop video? I was wondering the same.
Was also wondering about the “schematic editor”, which I think might be kicad.
Don’t think you’d regret it. I can’t speak for that one in particular, but I’m still running one of the DIY Kickstarter versions. Will probably replace it with another Framework (or maybe even just upgrade the components if I can).
Is this like a reference implementation or something they expect people to run?
I have similar, but I turn my display on/off with HDMI-CEC based on time.
Couple interesting resources:
These mostly just tell you how fucked you are though. The latter has some resources about how to deal with it, but it’s not that useful. The former is really good at breaking down the datapoints that are fucking you.
A lot of this stuff isn’t really something I’d want to remove, too. Like javascript knowing the viewport size or my timezone. Frustrating.
Edit to add: Found this as well which has some good info for configuring Firefox. Some things seem extreme to me, but it’s quite informative. https://avoidthehack.com/firefox-privacy-config
It’s about digital security and privacy.
To whom? Not the law makers who caused this to happen. If that were the case, maybe they would write laws that reflected that instead of just banning one company.
If a mobile game were able to harvest data inappropriately the same way, wouldn’t the problem be the same?
Where are all the mobile apps that Congress explicitly banned?
I can’t believe it, but this is like the least argued part of this whole thing. But IMO it’s the only thing that matters.
I feel like this would fit in some unexpected areas of mobile computing. Music, interfacing with other equipment (e.g. industrial computing), or other places where people might normally take a full laptop where that’s kind of overkill.
I’m not really sure, and I kind of wish I had a need for one.
Same. Temp sensors, flashlights, game controllers, thermostat, whatever. Haven’t had any issues.
The only time they suck is when a device wants an odd number of batteries. And my charger only works with tandem batteries. Not really sure of the implications, but charging two batteries with significantly different charge makes me nervous.
Kind of depends on if it’s good, tbh.
If it’s just mediocre, I might try and work it in some meals where I’d use lower quality meat (e.g. sauces, sausage, burgers, etc). Then I’d just get a good real steak from a local ranch a few times a year to scratch that itch.
If the difference is not really perceivable or better, then hell yeah. Easy choice. I might even venture into other meats that I wouldn’t eat otherwise like lamb, dog, horse, or even human.
I’m trying to get into creating electronic circuits. I’m terrible at it, though.
