Depends on the equipment. There are many european made bombs and missiles that can fit the f-35 for example. Maybe they will use what they’ve got and rely on allies for more. The only thing I know for sure is that being more prepared is better than being less prepared.

The money is completely insignificant to the USA, but the equipment could be crucial to Denmark. There are still certain classes of weapons system for which there is no ready European alternative to the US version, though we are working on them.

The best time to stand up to Trump was when he first started making threats to the EU. The second best time is now. It’s time to stand up and if Trump doesn’t TACO, we in the EU can start selling his treasuries and putting tarrifs on US cloud providers.

For economic integration, unpredictability is a non-starter. People don’t want to prefer China, but at least it’s possible to do business with them.

The logical counter response I guess would be for Denmark to get their own nukes and nuke the Americans on Greenland then. Then everyone can just keep nuking Greenland every few years.

First off it’s not that far from the US so they might get some fallout from that. Second, they are doing this for access to rare earth minerals which will be considerably harder to get under conditions of nuclear radiation. It may make the whole project untenable for a long time. Which is the opposite of what they want.

So generally, even removing all the humanitarian and geopolitical ramifications, which would be enormous, I don’t think it would serve their interests

They certainly have cold weather troops. I honestly have no idea what kind of numbers are needed for such an operation. But I know for sure that it’s better to have more rather than less when push comes to shove.
