Probably the most relatable one around here is the way people on reddit used to talk about bacon - in like 2010s reddit it was almost mythologized, which was weird to me even back then when I still ate and enjoyed bacon. There’s a bunch of other small examples like that I’ve run into pretty regularly that are each innocent on their own but taken all together are just… odd. “Cultish” was probably too strong of a word but I couldn’t think of a better alternative (then or now) for the way some people treat meat so differently than any other type of food, including ones you might expect to be more exciting like deserts or something.
I’m not one to try to tell people their opinions on subjective stuff are wrong and that’s not what I’m trying to say here, but I just do really think there’s more to the way some people treat meat than just it being a type of food they enjoy. Hopefully that makes some kind of sense lol

For me, it’s delicious in dungeon. I’m vegetarian and generally very weirded out by the cultish behaviours people have around meat, so a show about people killing and eating monsters should definitely not be as enjoyable to me as it is, but here we are. Very fun and cute show tho so I’m not complaining

Liberapay is similar to this, and very well established. Highly recommend checking it out!

I’m shocked nobody has said game of thrones yet

I’d put the unlimited budget to work miniaturizing a drone fleet powerful enough to maintain position / reliably follow the user thru storm winds that hold a large umbrella-style cover over you.
I never use umbrellas cuz I feel like they’re annoying to carry and you still get wet, but if it just reliably kept me dry with no extra work on my part I’d be more interested.
I never set up text selection and have apparently never tried it till now so that one I can’t help with, but with zsh you can enable ctrl+backspace behaviour by putting bindkey “^H” backward-delete-word in your ~/.zshrc file. Ctrl+delete is bindkey “\e[3;5~” delete-word, in case you also use that one.

Triangle, by the hu. Had it on repeat the whole day I first found it
I have everything you mentioned (except maybe the selection only stuff, I don’t use it and forget if I set it up at all) set up in my zsh+kitty setup, so it’s definitely possible. If you want I can dig thru my zshrc and kitty config for the relevant parts once I’m at my pc later.
People in here saying it’s a bad idea for things like compatibility with other shells make some good points, but I think they’re missing one important aspect - fuck other shells, what do I care? 95% of my time in the terminal is spent on my own machine and I may as well make it convenient for myself. The odd time I ssh into another box without my keybinds I’ll be a bit less efficient, but that’s a worthwhile trade off imo.

Not an overly surprising one, but the arch wiki has been an incredible source of info with no ads, tracking, or any of the modern web bullshit for as long as I’ve used it.
They’ve been hit with some pretty major DDOS attacks recently and they’ve done a really good job of keeping the important parts of the service as accessible as possible - they haven’t resorted to buying into cloudflare’s monopoly or blocking vpn users despite either or both being the easy way out.
For anyone else who’s relied on them as much as I have, now would be a great time to donate!
It only makes gtk theming slightly less of a pain in the ass, but you can use gtk’s inspector (enabled thru a gsettings terminal command and then ctrl+shift+d in the app or thru an environment variable) to find the classes, names, and object types for whatever you’re trying to theme.

I’m upvoting this because it made me laugh and I’m 90% sure you’re joking, but I think other people may be less sure and you might wanna add a /s lol

Polyproto is a really exciting one I’m keeping an eye on, though it’s still very early in development. It’s a protocol that allows for migrating accounts like you mentioned since the user owns their own identity. AFAIK only a chat app is being worked on right now, but the protocol allows for extensions and I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t work for other social media
ElementaryOS was my gateway drug cuz it was so pretty, I switched to have an OS that made me happy instead of miserable. Dual booted for a while for gaming until I got an hdr monitor and ended up stuck on my (modded for privacy and performance) windows partition more and more, but followed Wayland’s development religiously until plasma finally launched HDR in beta.
I chose arch (btw) cuz I was tired of running Debian-based distros with custom kernels and I generally just don’t like apt, and I don’t see myself ever really wanting to switch again.
(Other than compulsively reinstalling arch to try whatever new shit catches my eye, that doesn’t count)

Not an answer but I’ve seen you posting a lot and I appreciate the work you’re putting in to make the fediverse a more active place.
Thought about phrasing this as a backhanded compliment as a meme but I’d rather just be genuine lol
Oh sorry I was in a rush reading your post the first time and fully missed that your wireless adapter was broken lol. Do you have a 3.5mm audio cable to use? I honestly don’t even know if the USB port supports audio but my gut feeling would be charging only (can’t imagine why they’d bother putting a DAC in the headphones). I won’t have my headphones or my pc for a couple days but I can poke around with this after that if you want anything tested on another similar setup, by then.
Possibly a stupid question, but are you using the wireless dongle that came with the headphones? I have the same headphones and run arch as well, and my pc recognizes the dongle as “Audeze Maxwell usb” or something like that.
I’m running pipewire for my audio system and iirc it worked out of the gate with these headphones, though I did some modifications to get digital surround sound working too.

I only really use LLMs for project ideas, naming things, or recipes, but it’s great for those. For recipes especially, trusting the gaslight machine adds an extra layer of suspense and fun to cooking or baking.
It’s also fun, but not useful, to ask Linux questions - chatgpt specifically told me to restart dbus while in an active GUI session when I asked it about a simple case of unintended behaviour. It’s probably the dumbest Linux advice I’ve heard to date, so I got a lot of enjoyment out of trying it to see how bad it would fuck things up
You could run the crack in a vm without networking if you want a safe way to test it, although even if it appears to work I’d personally prob just keep the program in the vm to be safe
