Really good question, I’m not sure. The main difference between velour and velvet are their weave and pile, right? I would guess they’re both good for cat scratching since they’re so similar, but I don’t know for sure.
The power of velvet is probably one of the best kept secrets for cat owners. I’m always surprised how few people know about it.
I got a nice new leather couch a few years back, and my cat loooves to claw at leather, so I got a velvet cover and it’s genuinely like magic. He can scratch it all he wants and not do any damage. I think he actually realized it after a few days of trying to tear it up, because he gave up and now just likes to cuddle on it. I check on the leather every so often to make sure he hasn’t pierced the cover, but every time I check I’m amazed that the velvet cover and the leather underneath still look brand new after about three years of daily use.
Tldr velvet is basically claw-proof.
Yeah, this is what I came here to mention. Environmental damage and power consumption are what bitcoins cost, but those costs don’t give bitcoins any inherent value.
It’s actually a pretty appalling example of human ingenuity. We’ve managed to invent something that has a disproportionately terrible impact on every person on earth through its environmental effects, while simultaneously producing no practical value to anyone other than those wealthy enough to be in control of it.
Such a pretty cat.
Mine makes a very specific sound when he’s hunting bugs in particular. Anyone else’s cat do this? The closest thing it sounds like is a squirrel chippering/barking, but it’s totally different from his meow. He never does it any other time, even when he’s hunting his mouse toy, it’s freaking adorable.
Yeah I still rely on fansubs for all my jdramas that don’t get official releases outside Japan (which is still most of them). The quality is instantly obvious compared to machine-generated crap.
Cultural context and an understanding of tone and narrative coherence is critical for subtitles if you want to do justice to the quality of the writing in the original language.
Yeah honestly this has been one of my takeaways too, after hearing about these awful things a while back.
You never know what’s going on in the life of a stranger on the other end of a phone call, so respect and politeness is the best we can offer.
Yeah this is why I’ve stopped using Craig’s List. Most of the listings, last time I was looking, were scams. I lost a few ”application fees” and was always ghosted. I’ll never again respond to an ad that has any fees whatsoever until I can see with my own eyes that the property is real. Hunting for a place to live sucks so much.
Yep, same here.
It must be pretty intimidating for these fools to have to contend with a sane, principled, Jewish, Mexican woman. They don’t like any of those attributes.
I have two of the same pair of glasses, one with normal clear prescription lenses, and the other with prescription lenses that are tinted brown and polarized. I often forget to switch them out because the sunglasses make everything look so damn good, but I carry them both with me and usually switch to my clear glasses if I’m indoors for more than a minute. But if I pop into a gas station or something for 30 seconds then I’m definitely not taking them off.
As an American Jew who has spent significant time in Israel and the occupied territories in Palestine, this piece is awesome and accurately reflects my experiences there.
Anyone who thinks Israel operates in good faith needs to read this, to quickly have that misconception torn to shreds. Many American Jews have gone through this kind of transformation, and it makes perfect sense when you see what actually happens to the normal human beings living there—that happen to be Palestinian—on a daily basis.
And his descriptions of interacting and living with Palestinians (and how Israelis only ever refer to all Palestinians as Arabs), match my experiences to the tee.
That’s an awesome cat name.
