The pupils’ grievances range from overloaded timetables and overcrowded classes to insufficient teachers and unbearable temperatures during heatwaves earlier this year.

These things have been going on for too long. I live in France and work in higher education.

It might seem like a weird thing to complain about, seeing how many vacations we have here, but students do spend more time in class compared to other countries. We have to start at age 3 here. We haven’t seen any benefits from this yet.

It is a very normal thing for teachers to be absent without replacement for months at a time. Some students I work with didn’t have a maths or language teacher for their final year in high school.

There are schools with more students than desks, with windows that don’t open, with leaks, with bathroom stalls without doors. I have held lectures in rooms where the temperature was 37°C and admin said “bring a fan from home”. On Tuesday of this week it was 32 in my class.

I hate seeing things burn. It makes the protest look like a wild riot. One of the private elite schools also did a walkout and protest… Did the police show up? They sure did, but they didn’t lay a finger on anybody because you never know who their parents are. The press makes this look insane, but student protests have the support of the communities as far as I can tell.

Why would these kids need to be educated? AI will be doing all the work by the time they’re ready to enter the workforce anyway, so how can educating them now possibly help the shareholders?

protest by high-school students over long hours, teacher shortages and decaying facilities has escalated into “urban violence”, the French government has warned, as it said many schools would switch to online classes to protect teachers and pupils.

The pupils’ grievances range from overloaded timetables and overcrowded classes to insufficient teachers and unbearable temperatures during heatwaves earlier this year. Riot police have been deployed to confront the increasingly violent protests.

All these comments saying how good this is, but how is this impacting the rich? It’s not. Who was hurt in the violence? Again, the wrong people. Random iolence should be met with directed greater violence.
