I have a bias and say I already have a good impression of Andy because of his evidently good policies as the previous mayor of Manchester. Though of course, being a mayor is different from being the prime minister of the country. We will also see if “Manchesterism” could scale up on the national level.
You can tell he’s no threat to the establishment by how the establishment treats him. If he were a threat, we wouldn’t be hearing this ‘king of the north’ stuff.
Yeah, from what I can tell, Andy’s policies sound very much alike the 1930s and '40s social liberal/FDR-style “business-friendly socialism”. Andy believes in public investment, which not only helps ordinary people but also businesses such as improving roads to make transportation easier for businesses and commuting for workers. In lieu to this, improving public transport also means those who don’t drive not only allows them to commute easily to and from work, but also encourages people to travel more during off-working hours in or around the city for shopping, entertainment etc. As a result, this encouraged people to use more public transport in Greater Manchester which is the city he had been the mayor of. Telling businesses how his policies help to assuage right leaning folks. After all, to become prime minister, Andy ran in a constituency that is right leaning and yet loves him. He easily won 55% of the votes.
It is worrying how few media appearances he has done, and how light the questioning was when he did get interviewed.
If they think continuing with the same policies with a different presenter will work, Labour may end up fighting for 4th place in a couple of years.

I would bet my life’s savings that the social media ban is the reason for a new face on the government fucking you. They won’t roll it back because he believes in it too, but he is better trained on keeping his gobble shut. Nothing will change and you’ll be asked by all media figures and labour politicians to move on from the past. Hopefully at least it clears a path for the greens when they’re the only ones talking about reality as it actually exists.
My first thought was the other way around… Starmer knew he was on his way out and needed to push through the social media ban to repay the tech oligarchs that got him elected. Either way Burnam needs to actually change tack, and TBH I’m going to take some convincing to not vote for the greens.

Realistically though the only chance the country has of avoiding a reform future is to give the reform base some of what they want under labour. I don’t see a way around it otherwise.
